UMUC is an unprecedented three-time winner in the Cybersecurity Association of Maryland’s People’s Choice Award category.

ADELPHI, Md. (April 24, 2019) —Loyce Pailen, a doctor of management and director of the Center for Security Studies at 91ֱ�� of Maryland 91ֱ�� College (UMUC), has won the Cybersecurity Association of Maryland, Incorporated (CAMI) People’s Choice Award, announced April 11 during the 3rd Annual Maryland Cybersecurity Awards Celebration.

Pailen is the third UMUC faculty member in a row to receive the coveted CAMI prize. ��Mansur Hasib, Ph.D., cybersecurity technology program chair won in 2017 and Dr. Emma Garrison-Alexander, Ph.D., vice dean of UMUC cybersecurity graduate programs won in 2018.

“Being recognized among six highly qualified cybersecurity��professionals is a tremendous honor,” said��Pailen��of her People’s Choice Award. “At UMUC, where we have one of the strongest and most innovative��cybersecurity��education programs in the world, it’s a privilege to be part of a leadership team that also promotes cybersecurity through scholarship, grants and K-12 community outreach,” she added.

Before a sold-out crowd of 350 attendees at the Maryland LIVE! Casino & Hotel in Hanover, Maryland, 15 awards were presented to Maryland companies, organizations and individuals judged to have outstanding cybersecurity products, services or programs, or to have made a substantial contribution to Maryland’s cybersecurity industry.

CAMI awards nominees are selected by a committee of independent judges. Finalists in all awards categories, which include individuals and companies, then compete for global votes for the People's Choice Awards contests.��

Pailen has more than 35 years of experience in information technology, including work in��cybersecurity, software development, project management, telecommunications, risk management, and network and systems security and administration. She has held director-level information technology positions at the Washington Post, Graham Holdings, UMUC, and as a contractor at Computer Sciences Corporation for the Defense Cyber Investigations Training Academy (DCITA) of the U.S. Department of Defense.

She also has provided project leadership for instructional design and subject-matter expertise for major graduate, undergraduate and community college information systems security curriculum development projects. In addition to her work in the field, Pailen is the author of “Super Cybersecurity Grandma,” a book series that introduces children to cybersecurity and online safety.
