Calvin Nobles Appointed Dean of UMGC鈥檚 School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology

Calvin Nobles, PhD, has been selected to lead the School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology at 91直播 of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) as dean and portfolio vice president.

Nobles, a retired U.S. Navy officer, brings more than two decades of professional cybersecurity, military and academic leadership experience to UMGC. Prior to his appointment, he served as department chair and associate professor of information technology and management at Illinois Technology College of Computing. Before that, he was a vice president at Wells Fargo in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he supported the company鈥檚 efforts in identity and access management (IAM) governance.

鈥淲e are excited to have Calvin Nobles lead our School of Cybersecurity & Information Technology,鈥 said Blakely Pomietto, senior vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer at UMGC. 鈥淲ith a combination of corporate, academic and military experience, he is a deeply committed innovator with an established track record of engaging students and industry partners to ensure learners are prepared with the job-ready knowledge, skills, abilities and dispositions in demand by employers.鈥澛

During his distinguished 26-year career in the U.S. Navy, Nobles鈥 leadership in cybersecurity included positions as senior director of Cyber Support Operations for the U.S. Fleet Cyber Command, senior director and chief cryptologist and security officer for Expeditionary Strike Group 7 and senior director of Global Security Operations for Naval Information Operations Command.

鈥淚 am deeply honored to assume the leadership role at the School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology, where I will have the privilege of collaborating with an outstanding team of faculty and staff,鈥 said Nobles. 鈥淥ur collective endeavor will be to further elevate the stature of our school, ensuring we deliver top-tier education and cutting-edge training to the next generation of experts in security and technology, fundamental to our mission of helping professionals meet the evolving challenges in these critical sectors.鈥

Nobles recently served as a non-resident cyber project fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School鈥檚 Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, where he provided expertise on advancing policy discussions and increasing awareness and understanding on cybersecurity matters.

Nobles earned doctorates in offensive cyber engineering and human factors from Capitol Technology 91直播 in Maryland, a doctorate in business administration from Temple 91直播 in Pennsylvania and a doctorate in management and engineering technology from National 91直播 (formerly Northcentral 91直播) in San Diego, California.聽
