Nobles to Chair Cyber Group at Human Factors and Ergonomic Society

91直播, Md. (Feb. 18, 2025)--Calvin Nobles, PhD, portfolio vice president and dean of the School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology at 91直播 of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), has been appointed chair of the Cybersecurity Technical Group at the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES).

The Cybersecurity Technical Group fosters collaboration among researchers, practitioners and industry leaders to address human interactions in cyber defense, from end-user behavior to decision-making in high-stakes environments.

鈥淚 am focused on expanding interdisciplinary research, strengthening industry engagement and advocating for human-centered cybersecurity policies and system design,鈥 said Nobles. 鈥淭hrough increased membership and strategic partnerships with universities, government agencies and other nonprofits, we hope to demonstrate that we can solve these growing industry challenges.鈥

As group chair, Nobles will lead efforts to advance human factors in cybersecurity through interdisciplinary work and through discussions on automation, human-machine teaming and socio-technical resilience. At UMGC, Nobles, a retired U.S. Navy officer, brings more than two decades of professional cybersecurity, military and academic leadership experience to his role with the School of Cybersecurity and Information Technology.

Nobles wants to equip organizations with insights that will mitigate cyber risks and drive the Cybersecurity Technical Group鈥檚 mission forward, enhancing its impact in the cybersecurity community.

The mission of the Cybersecurity Technical Group is to promote work addressing human factors and human-computer interaction in cybersecurity. The group engages professionals interested in this area, organizes sessions and fosters community building.

About the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society

Founded in 1957, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society () is the world鈥檚 largest scientific association for human factors/ergonomics professionals. The society鈥檚 3,500 members work in educational institutions, industry, government and military research centers, and independent consultancies in 58 countries. About 15 percent of members are students.聽HFES is a federated society of the International Ergonomics Association. HFES provides education, builds connections and advocates on behalf of human factors/ergonomics field鈥攆rom students to researchers to industry practitioners. It also fosters collaboration across the spectrum of professionals to drive forward advances in human factors and ergonomics.
