How many credits can I receive for my military rank?

UMGC students from the military community who meet the eligibility requirements for this program may potentially receive up to 12 credits equivalent to the following business, management, and leadership courses that can be applied toward any undergraduate degree or certificate program: <button class='course-link' data-course-id='BMGT 110' data-course-name='Introduction to Business and Management' data-course-credits='3 Credits' data-course-description='(For students with little or no business background. Recommended preparation for many other BMGT courses.) An introduction to the fundamental concepts of business management and leadership. The objective is to understand the interrelated dynamics of business, society, and the economy. Discussion covers business principles and practices in the context of everyday business events and human affairs and from a historical perspective.'> Introduction to Business and Management (3 Credits, BMGT 110) <button class='course-link' data-course-id='BMGT 365' data-course-name='Organizational Leadership' data-course-credits='3 Credits' data-course-description='Prerequisite: BMGT 110 or BMGT 364. A comprehensive examination of organizational leadership. The objective is to use the strategies and practices that foster effective leadership within diverse organizations. Emphasis is on exploring the foundational leadership theories, developing key skills for motivating teams, and learning how to create a positive organizational culture. What documentation do I need to submit to receive credit for my military rank and experience?

You must complete an attestation form that will be provided to you (if eligible) in your UMGC student portal. You must also submit your JST or CCAF military transcript to qualify for military transfer credit review.

Can I earn graduate credit for my military rank?

At this time, military rank for credit is for undergraduate courses only.

Can I earn credit for military rank if I am an officer in the military?

If you are an active-duty commissioned or warrant officer in the U.S. Armed Forces who has not completed an undergraduate degree and served in the applicable enlisted ranks within the last 10 years, you may request consideration and evaluation for this opportunity through your advisor.

UMGC offers up to 12 total credits for select undergraduate business, management, and leadership courses, dependent upon your achieved rank in your U.S. military service. For certain business- and management-related degree plans (like the business administration and management bachelor's degree), these credits may articulate to core business course requirements. UMGC’s career-focused programs can help you increase your marketability in high-demand field, and providing credit for your military rank recognizes that your military experience and skills can give you a head-start toward earning a degree.
