Introduction
The鈥疧nline Guide to Writing and Research focuses mainly on the challenges of writing research papers, like how to write summaries, abstracts, and critiques. It also has a section in chapter鈥3 on 鈥Writing Essay Examinations.鈥 There are different types of research writing that you might practice during your time at UMGC.

Two kinds of writing assignments the Effective Writing Center assists students with are the鈥痑rgumentative assignment鈥痑nd the鈥痑rticle review鈥痮r鈥痳eaction paper.听
An article review, or reaction paper, aims to present a neutral point of view on a topic. Both sides of the argument are discussed in this type of assignment.
